What is an antlion?

An antlion (or doodlebug) is the larva of a lacewing-like insect. It digs a cone-shaped pit in sand and ambushes ants and other small insects that slide in. They're harmless to people and fascinating to watch.

Where do you ship?

The continental United States only (the lower 48). We can't ship to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, APO/FPO, or internationally.

How much is shipping?

A simple flat rate via USPS Priority Mail, shown at checkout.

What if my antlions don't arrive alive?

They're covered by our live-arrival guarantee. Email us within 48 hours with your order number and a photo and we'll send a free replacement.

Care

How do I take care of antlions?

Keep them in fine dry sand at room temperature, out of direct sun, and feed a small ant or two about once a week. Full details are in our care guide.

What do antlions eat?

Small ants, pinhead crickets, or flightless fruit flies. They eat very little and are patient hunters.

Are antlions good for classrooms?

Wonderful for them — they teach life cycles, habitats, and predator–prey behavior. Our Class Project kit includes printable resources for teachers.
